Unveiled at the 1959 Amsterdam Show with a 600 cc twin-cylinder, the DAF will be produced until 1975. Its automatic transmission continues 'Variomatic' was its main peculiarity. Composed of pulleys connected by toothed belts, it provided an infinite number of transmission ratios that earned it the nickname of a "1000-ratio box". This system has made DAF cars extremely flexible and easy to drive.
The DAFs won their displacement class in the largest international gatherings.
In 1975, Volvo bought the small Dutch brand and continued to run the 'Variomatic' until 1982 with the 340 range.
