Rough Roads to 911 Dakar is a high-quality photo book with exclusive photographs by Christoph Bauer. The return of the rally legend. The 911 is: "The only car with which you can go on an African safari, race the Le Mans, go to the theatre and then drive on the streets of New York".

This quote from Ferry Porsche is truer now than it ever has been. The new Porsche 911 Dakar effortlessly fulfils what was probably not meant literally at the time. You can easily drive it at rally speed over stones, sand or gravel roads, yet it also cuts a fine figure in the evening before the opera.

The forerunner of the 911 Dakar is the legendary 911 Carrera 3.2 4×4 Paris-Dakar (953), which triumphed in the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally. The newly launched off-road Porsche strikes a balance between road-going sports car and off-roader better than any other 911 before it.

Rough Roads to 911 Dakar is a book that traces the development of the first real off-road 911 across seven chapters. From its historic genes and its development in the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach to the comprehensive test and trial drives across several continents, exquisite pictures document the creation of this special 911, which is limited to just 2,500 units.

The impressive photographs in this book were taken by Christoph Bauer. The photographer has worked for Porsche for many years and was there throughout the entire vehicle development process – always working closely with the developers.

He has created spectacular images that can only be seen in this photo book. Stefan Anker wrote the accompanying texts.
