A charming motorcyclist with long hair and an irresistible smile, Barry Sheene combined virtuosity, charisma, courage, joviality, eccentricity, sincerity, and humility.

A maverick British racer, this Francophile contributed to the media popularity of motorbike racing in the 1970s. His frenetic lifestyle, his sulfurous married life with supermodel Stephanie McLean, and his friendship with pop stars (including two of the Beatles), earned him headlines in specialized magazines and popular press.

Enfant terrible of motorcycling, two-time 500 world champion (in 1976 and '77), Barry Sheene could easily be seen as a quirky, light-hearted character.

Like the Donald Duck painted on his helmet: "I did it because I was sure no one would expect a rider to win with that on his helmet!".

Disappeared tragically in March 2003 at the age of 52, Barry Sheene will always be remembered as the driver with the number 7. A number to which he was permanently linked in 1975, when he survived a terrible accident at Daytona… at 280 km/h!

Barry Sheene: La légende du numéro 7 traces a complete biographical profile with a splendid photographic collection.
