The Giro di sicilia took place for the first time in 1912 based on the idea of Vincenzo Florio, patron and enlightened entrepreneur from Palermo. The Giro represented an event of great sporting importance and an opportunity for development for the automotive industry which, with racing in general, was able to launch series production thanks to the severe testing carried out in sporting events. The best road riders of their respective eras participated in the Giro di Sicilia: from Piero Taruffi to Gigi Villoresi, Tazio Nuvolari, Clemente Biondetti, and then Peter Collins, Eugenio Castellotti, Luigi Musso, the "champion" Juan Manuel Fangio, up to the Marzotto brothers and many others.
