Grandi piloti di oggi was first published in 1963, and then, a few years later, in 1967, translated in Italian and published by L'Editrice dell'Automobile, as part of a series in which important names of sports journalism explored the variegated world of the automobile.
Here, the author, Richard von Frankenberg - who personally competed in various races, especially driving Porsches in the 1950s - tackled the firmament of racing, made up of 'stars that acquire a brighter light day by day; and also of stars that sometimes tragically fade away, as happened to Lorenzo Bandini, Jim Clark, Lodovico Scarfiotti and Mike Spence, who rightly remain in the testimony of these pages because they are still contemporary and alive in the hearts of sportsmen.
