It is, in the opinion of some, the most authentic touring Matra. Designed to stand out for its originality, its vocation was to be "the car of friends".
It was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1967 with the official denomination of 530, named after one of the missiles made by the armaments' division of Matra, a company with diversified activities, which entered motor racing with the aim of winning the most important titles.
The model, with lines linked to the racing Matra 620, presents a unique mix: both coupé and convertible, central engine and independent wheel suspension give it great comfort and exceptional road holding.
It will be produced in less than ten thousand units for seven years. It is the only 2 + 2 with central engine that offers the possibility of an outdoor ride.
The author traces its history with interesting archive images. The appendix contains technical characteristics and body colors.
