On 11 May 1947 Franco Cortese, at the wheel of a 125 S, kicked off the exciting and thrilling adventure of the "rosse" bearing the prancing horse in Piacenza.
But apart from the actual history of the Maranello marque, that 11th May also marked the beginning of another adventure, which was in some ways only minor in terms of its size: that of the modelling industry, which was intended to immortalise Ferrari's glorious racing cars on a small scale.
An adventure that Jean-Marie and Daniele Lastu retrace in this volume, with a precision and a wealth of information that is a real treasure for anyone with a passion for the subject.
Naturally, given the vastness of the subject, some limitations were necessary: of scale, taking into consideration only 1/43 models, and of subject, excluding single-seaters and cars for road use only.
Nonetheless, more than one hundred and fifty Ferrari cars and racing versions were considered by the authors over a period of time ranging from 1947 to 1991, making a total of more than five hundred models from more than one hundred marques around the world.
Modellini 1/43 Ferrari Sport, Prototipi, 250 GT e GTO is therefore a true "encyclopaedia" of Ferrari 1/43s in which the authors have been able to weave a complete picture of the history of what they consider a "devouring and fascinating passion".
And which features not only Maranello's masterpieces, but also the people who "made" modelling, from the pioneer John Day to the highly fussy Japanese marques.
Published in 1992, this volume - which immediately became a classic of modelling literature - has 364 pages and 696 colour images.
