The first legendary Paris-Dakar rally left the Trocadero in 1979, its destination Senegal. From that moment on, nothing was ever the same again in the enduro world, because the race enjoyed an explosive success. So year by year, the โ€œprivateโ€ entrants were gradually replaced by the motorcycle manufacturers, with top riders. This mainly because of the reams of publicity and TV air time generated by the event. Even actors and other members of show business community entered the mighty marathon, ready to share the sand between their teeth with race officials in an effort to live through the Paris-Dakar experience. All the manufacturers added enduro models to their ranges, and that produced a series of enormously appealing bikes. They were the closest the manufacturers could get to their Paris-Dakar machines: they had huge fuel tanks and evocative names like Paris-Dakar, Tuareg, Camel and Africa Twin. The book covers that decade, reliving the more important special stages of the race and examining the enduro phenomenon through the eventโ€™s most successful models. It also includes a final catalogue with all the marques and models, illustrated with pictures of the various versions and their respective evolutions, plus a host of technical data. This first and unique book on enduro motorcycles is a must for all off-road enthusiasts.
