OLIO DI RICINO
Oliodiricino, published in 2005, and written by Andrea Coco, a former RAI journalist, tells of Sardinia racing, "these last fifty years of motor racing in Sardegna, and not only, seen through the somewhat lucid eyes of the driver and recounted with the lucidity of the journalist".
And it is precisely this dual role that allows Andrea Coco to write with such simplicity and perfection of language that everyone can understand what motor racing in Sardegna has been and how it has developed.
Coco reminds us that "in 1922, five years before the birth of the extremely tough Mille Miglia, there was a Cagliari-Sassari race that ended with the victory of a Piemontese".
The love for motor racing shines through in every page of this beautiful book, which is well worth reading. There are anecdotes, stories and portraits of characters, Sardinian and otherwise, that Andrea Coco met during his professional and sporting life.
"Oliodiricino, written all attached because it is quicker this way", explains the author.
Ricin oil was used in the 1960s to add oil to the engines of racing cars to make them smoother and more viscous.
It made the air on the racetracks very special, characterized by an unmistakable odour, indeed a perfume.
Difficult to find, it also fills a gap in motoring literature.
