The Porsche 956 and the derivative 962 version dominated long-distance sports car racing on both sides of the Atlantic during the 1980s, both in European Group C racing and the American IMSA series. The car’s numerous successes included six consecutive victories in the Le Mans 24 Hours and four consecutive victories in the Daytona 24 Hours.

Porsche 956 962 – A Photographic History, written by Glen Smale, is possibly one of the most comprehensive accounts of the achievements of these magnificent racing cars, unquestionably the most successful in the history of endurance racing.

The author has created a detailed chronology of the development as well as a summary of all the races in which the Porsche 956 and 962 raced: World Endurance Championship, World Sports Prototype Championship, Sportscar World Championship, IMSA-GTP Series, Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft, Interserie, Supercup and Japanese Sports Prototype Championship.

As is explained by the sub-title "A Photographic History", photographs form a substantial part of this publication. There is indeed no comparable photographic documentation on the market yet that covers these Porsche racing models in such depth.

Glen Smale has made a stunning selection from the numerous well-known archives and includes illustrations of technical details to photos of enthralling racing scenes to photos of the happenings around the race track as well as some driver portraits, covering most aspects of the car’s extraordinary achievements.

This is a big book about a big subject, as these awesome machines raced competitively for 12 years and almost 150 of them were manufactured for use by factory and customer teams.
