The Italian Super-Tourism Championship was an Italian motorsport championship for touring cars; the championship experienced several lives relative to the specifications used by the cars.
In the first period, from 1987 to 1999, the fight for the title was mainly in the hands of the official BMW, Alfa Romeo and Audi teams (thanks to four-wheel drive and the experts Emanuele Pirro and Rinaldo Capello).
The championship, characterized by hard-fought races, was a great success thanks also to the television coverage provided first by RAI and from 1994 by TMC.
