When Triumph rose from the ashes in the 1990s, the management had one aim in mind - to re-establish a reputation for reliable production machinery - no racing! But it didn't take long for the Triumph Super III motor derived from the Trident to be developed (with semi-works support) for BEARS competition.

Quite rightly, remembering the 750cc triples success of the 1970s, before the roof fell in. The Trident has held its own in road test against the likes of the BMW R100R, just as the T160 had captured the imagination of an earlier generation.

A transverse three is, let's face it, an oddity - but it worked once, and now the Hinckley designers have made it work again, some would say against all the odds.

Triumph Triples - title in the Osprey Classic Motorcycles series - published in 1995, tells us about Triples Triumphs, from origins to the rebirth of the nineties.

128 richly illustrated pages, with 120 colour images.
