The Ferrari 126 C3 raced in the 1983 season. It replaced Ferrari's 126 C2 after the British Grand Prix, and driven by René Arnoux and Patrick Tambay, won the World Constructors' Championship, the last for Ferrari before 1999, while the drivers finished third and fourth.
The 126 C3 was the first product of a new generation of cars from Maranello. Because it was conceived and built in the ultra-modern scuderia beside the Fiorano racetrack, because it used new materials, eliminated part of the bodywork and made abundant use of electronics.
It has, apparently, no substantial stylistic novelties compared to the previous model, of which it retains the mechanical part almost unchanged.
The chassis, however, is completely new. Designed by engineer Harvey Postlethwaite, it is made of Kevlar: two overlapping shells, welded together. The first result is a weight loss of 20 kilograms in the shell alone. The same chassis also serves as the bodywork at the front.
This volume, with texts by Cristiano Chiavegato, photos by Ercole Colombo, and preface by Enzo Ferrari, celebrates its birth and development, with an exhaustive and rich photographic collection.
