The Porsche 917 is considered, not without reason, the ultimate racing car.

To present this legendary car, its racing successes and its evolution over time, Delius Klasing has republished the book Porsche 917 - Archiv und Werkverzeichnis 1968-1975, written by Porsche specialist Walter Näher and first published in 2009, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of this iconic car.

Developed under the direction of Ferdinand Piëch, the 917 became one of the most successful racing cars of all time.

The book describes its genesis and development: all 64 Porsche 917s built are discussed in detail in the second part of the text.

For its writing, the Porsche Museum provided comprehensive documentation of the entire 917 project: for the first time, all documents and photos from the Porsche archive were made available to the author.

Walter Näher was involved in the development of the Porsche 917 as a young engineer and drove it in many races. His unique familiarity with this car enabled him to write the definitive book on the Porsche 917, which details its development, test drives and trials and also includes race reports.

The re-edition of this landmark book now appears with a new, exclusively designed, removable cover featuring vintage posters of the Porsche 917 in action.
