With the conversion of a two-stroke toy engine into an auxiliary bicycle engine, Jörg Rasmussen founded the rise of the DKW in the early 1920s.
Back in 1928, DKW was able to establish itself as the most successful motorcycle brand in the world.
At the same time, the company entered the automotive sector and in 1930 developed the first production car in the world with front-wheel drive, always with a two-stroke engine.
After VW's acquisition of Auto Union in the 1960s, however, the two-stroke engine had its best time.
Frank Rönicke presents the whole story of the legendary brand here.
