Too often overlooked by Bugatti enthusiasts who prefer "Pursangs" of the road, the automotrices were an integral part of Ettore Bugatti's achievements. In particular, they saved the marquee from bankruptcy in the 1930s, when automotive production was in decline.

Streamlined, efficient, timeless, powerful, innovative, these creations embody the soul and spirit of the Alsatian company.

In just a few years they transformed rail transport, which had hibernated for several decades, and left an indelible mark that can still be seen today in contemporary TGVs.

Powered by two or four 200-horsepower engines, the same ones mounted on the famous “Royale” cars, the Bugatti automotrices carried millions of passengers at a speed never before reached and in absolute safety.

Author Eric Favre explains everything in detail, from the history of automotrices in France, to the organizations that ran the railways, to explaining the different models, with their costs, sizes, specifications and differences.

The book, illustrated by over 400 documents, drawings, diagrams and period photographs, most of them unseen until now, traces the origins of these trains from 1931, when first construction began, right up to the late Fifties, when they were finally withdrawn from service.
