Thursday 21 April 1921, at half past eight in the morning, the first car started from Casamozza di Casinca towards Corte in what was the first motor race ever held on the island, in the centre-east of Corsica.

Only ten drivers competed for the Trophy of "Le circuit automobile de la Corse", but they were all experienced drivers, some internationally renowned. In a post-war period still characterised by shortages, it was already a great achievement for the organisers to have managed to gather so many drivers.

The event was a huge success, both in sporting and public terms, and was even reported in the press in New Zealand. Beyond the strictly sporting aspect, the Corsica Grand Prix reflects, in its own way, the hopes of an island in search of a new path in sporting and economic, but also political and identity development.

It also reflects its ambiguities. A fleeting moment and an ultimately unsuccessful conclusion, symbolically accentuated by the success of the Napoleonic centenary ceremonies, synonymous with a Corsica frozen in archaic representations and soon numbed by the return of political and social immobility.

Le circuit automobile de la Corse 21 Avril 1921 tells us about a unique event and fills a lacuna in the literature devoted to motor racing.
