Edfor - Do sonho à desilusão by José Barros Rodrigues chronicles the fascinating and ultimately melancholic story of one of the most ambitious projects in Portuguese automotive history.
The Edfor, created in the 1930s by Eduardo Ferreirinha, a brilliant industrialist and racing driver from Porto (owner of EFI - Eduardo Ferreirinha & Irmão), was born from the dream of manufacturing high-performance sports cars in Portugal.
The brand's masterpiece, the Edfor Grand Sport, was officially unveiled at the 1937 Porto Motor Show. It was an exceptionally elegant two-seater "Torpedo" style roadster featuring a lightweight aluminum body (weighing just 150 kg) and a modified Ford V8 engine.
Despite receiving high praise from the European automotive press for its cutting-edge design, the project faced insurmountable industrial and bureaucratic hurdles that prevented serial production. The endeavor transitioned "from dream to disappointment," as only four units were ever built, with just one known survivor today.
José Barros Rodrigues, a prominent Portuguese automotive historian, meticulously reconstructs this pioneering venture in a comprehensive volume supported by a rich photographic archive, featuring 174 historical images and illustrations.
