Geoff Lees: From Mechanic to Formula 1 is the autobiography of one of Britain's most versatile and experienced racing drivers. Fully revised, with new photographs and memories from Mike Thackwell, this is the definitive tale of Geoff Lees.

In 1981, Geoff became European Formula 2 Champion and took the 1983 Japanese Formula 2 drivers’ title. These were the high points of a career that gained momentum when Lees won the 1975 Formula Ford Festival and all three British Formula Ford championships in that year, an unprecedented feat, which has never been equalled.

He won the prestigious Macau Grand Prix on two occasions, defeating the likes of future Grand Prix winner Riccardo Patrese and established F1/Indycar star Derek Daly. He raced in Formula 1 not only for Shadow, RAM Racing and Ensign, but also Tyrrell and Lotus, two of the most iconic teams in racing history.

Later Lees competed in the Le Mans 24-hour race fourteen times, coming only an hour away from winning the race in 1998 on one of many appearances for the Toyota factory team.

Despite beating the likes of Stefan Johansson, Thierry Boutsen, Nigel Mansell and numerous other established F1 drivers on the way up the motor racing ladder, Geoff Lees only started five Grand Prix.

He never got the big opportunity to show what he could achieve at the highest level, after which his career took him in a new direction, to Japan, where he had much success, ultimately leading him to re-invent himself as one of the world’s top sportscar racers.
