1975 Spanish GP: with an unexpected sixth place at the finish line, Lella Lombardi gained a rightful place in the history of Formula 1, the only woman to have scored points in the top series.
The record - still unmatched to this day - represents the crowning achievement of a long career, which began in the mid-1960s with the minor formulae, continued in the challenging Formula 3 context and was recognised internationally thanks to positive results in Formula 5000, a very popular category in Anglo-Saxon countries.
Having left Formula 1 in 1976 with the feeling of not having been able to express himself to the best of his ability, Lella found a second competitive youth at the wheel of the “sport-prototype” Osella first and then the Alfa Romeo "touring" cars, asserting herself in the World Championship for Makes and the European Championship.
With her retirement from competition in 1988, she set up a team bearing her name, but her health conditions prevented her from continuing the activity: ill for some time, Lella passed away in 1992 at only 51 years of age.
A woman of exceptional temperament and well ahead of her time, Lella Lombardi represents an example - today as then - of how it is possible to achieve results thanks to one's talent and unwavering willpower, even in a sport that is usually dominated by men.
