The Preliminary Tests for the 24 Hours of Le Mans were introduced by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) in 1959 to give competitors the opportunity to test their cars and drivers on the Le Mans circuit a few weeks before the race. Until now, no book has been devoted to the history of these Essais Préliminaires.

This first volume covers the period 1970-1974, a period rich in changes, both to the track (the Maison Blanche zone in 1972) and to the regulations (5-liter Sports then the advent of 3-liter Prototypes). The 3 or 4-hour Le Mans race, which was organized during these test weekends, is also covered in the book.

Les Essais Préliminaires 24 Heures du Mans 1970-1974 features 404 pages and 340 photos. Text in French and English.
