In 1967 the NSU Ro 80 was unveiled, truly innovative and the jewel of the marque's production. But the real revolution was in the rotary piston engine, a Wankel patent, which had aroused great interest in the 1960s due to the absence of mechanical parts with alternate movement and thus its silent qualities.
In those years many manufacturers experimented it, but at the end it was only the old Neckarsulm company that brought it into production. The revolutionary motorisation failed due to customer indifference, resistance from the established automotive industry, and the fact that NSU's new owners had no interest in the project.
With this volume, author and witness of the time, Dieter Korp, traces a complete and incomparable chronicle of the NSU Wankel, thanks to accurate documentation of early prototypes, design studies and rotary piston technology, as well as previously unpublished photographic material.
NSU Ro 80 Die Geschichte des Wankelmotors features 264 pages and 300 pictures. Text in German.
