Tazio Nuvolari - Compagno del vento is not just a book, but a vibrant graphic novel that captures the essence, adrenaline, and genius of the legendary Italian racing driver known as the "Flying Mantuan".
With a fast-paced script by Pit Formento and masterfully illustrated with the rapid, essential strokes of Marco D'Aponte, this volume catapults the reader directly into the cockpit of the most epic and dangerous races of the 20th century.
Themes and Style
- The Triumph of Man over Machine: The narrative core celebrates pure talent. The work demonstrates that in a race, it is not merely the engineering that makes the difference, but the driver's courage, class, ruthlessness, and temperament. A glorious example is the retelling of the unforgettable 1935 German Grand Prix, where Nuvolari, behind the wheel of an outgunned Alfa Romeo, triumphed against the overwhelmingly favored and powerful German cars of Mercedes and Auto-Union.
- Cinematic Pacing: The script boasts a dynamic rhythm, perfectly tailored for a life lived constantly on the edge. D'Aponte's artwork supports this urgency with panel layouts and framing that resemble cinematic sequences, effectively conveying the sheer thrill and tension of speed to the reader.
- Narrative Coloring: The use of color is not merely aesthetic but acts as an emotional tool cleverly employed to highlight the most crucial moments of the story and the raw intensity of the races.
- The Man Behind the Myth: Beyond the roar of the engines and the smell of burning rubber, the book reveals the profound humanity, genuine simplicity, and extraordinary skill of a man who became a folk hero.
Tazio Nuvolari - Compagno del vento - originally published in 2009 and re-released in this new edition - is considered one of the most comprehensive and breathtaking tributes ever dedicated to "Nivola," capable of captivating both motorsport enthusiasts and lovers of great biographical storytelling alike.
