Berardo Taraschi, born in Teramo in 1915, was a racing car driver and manufacturer, very active from 1947 until the end of the 1950s.

As a driver, he had the opportunity to race - even in Formula 1 - during the years when Ascari and Villoresi filled the headlines. Berardo Taraschi did not have the same visibility as the great champions. In Formula 1, he raced a dozen Grands Prix as a private driver in a Ferrari 166 modified by himself, and also achieved some good results.

He also took part in many races in the minor formulas, usually with cars he had built himself. He built the cars he raced himself, drove them in competition, carried them to victory and then in the wake of his success sold a small series to other private drivers.

He came to automobile racing after beginning as a motorbike racer and builder, and it was from the world of motorbikes that he took the engine for his first racing car.

The first "Urania" in 1947 was a two-seater sports car with a BMW motorbike engine on a Fiat Topolino chassis.

The Urania was followed by the "Giaur", built in partnership with Roman coachbuilders Giannini, and later by the "Junior", designed to take part in Formula Junior and Formula 3 races. Berardo Taraschi built more than a hundred cars, all for competition.
