'Rover V8, the history of the engine' tells the fascinating story of the engine from which a legend was born. Starting as a project of General Motors in 1961, but withdrawn three years later in favor of a cheaper technology, he reached Rover by chance in the mid-1960s. Few other British companies then had V8 engines in production, and Rover immediately gained a special status when the V8 entered the British production in 1967.
This engine was compact and also extraordinarily light, thanks to its construction entirely in aluminum alloy; it was not a high-performance engine, but it had a proven and simple architecture that made it reliable and easy to work with.
No wonder, then, that the Rover V8 was purchased by sports car manufacturers who needed engines with similar characteristics and that its popularity has assured even today its production in small volume, half a century after the its exit from the UK factories.
