In this collectible photography book by Roberto Barbato, exclusive images commemorate the bond between Porsche and the Targa Florio, representing one of the most fascinating chapters in motorsport history.

The Stuttgart manufacturer participated in the famous Sicilian race from the early 1950s, finding the challenging roads of the Madonie the ideal terrain to highlight the characteristics of its cars: lightness, agility, reliability, and driving precision.

The first overall victory came in 1956, when Umberto Maglioli drove the Porsche 550 A Spyder to success. From that moment on, the Targa Florio became one of the most important competitions for Porsche, fielding legendary cars in the Sicilian mountains such as the 718 RSK, the 904 Carrera GTS, the 906 Carrera 6, the 907, the 908, and the 911.

The narrow roads of the Targa, characterized by hundreds of corners, continuous gradient changes, and routes winding through towns, primarily rewarded agility and endurance. It is precisely because of these traits that Porsches proved to be exceptionally competitive.

Great drivers such as Umberto Maglioli, Jo Bonnier, Hans Herrmann, Graham Hill, and Vic Elford helped build the legend of the German manufacturer in Sicily. One of the most celebrated feats took place in 1968, when Vic Elford and Umberto Maglioli claimed a memorable victory in the Porsche 907.

In 1970, Porsche won again with the extraordinary 908/03—small, incredibly light, and agile, designed specifically for twisting circuits like the Madonie. The drivers were Siffert and Redman.

With 11 overall victories, Porsche is the most successful manufacturer in the history of the Targa Florio. This record tells the story of a unique relationship between the Stuttgart cars, the great champions, and the legendary roads of Sicily, making the Targa Florio a fundamental part of Porsche's motorsport history.
