Together with his colleagues in the Citroën design office, André Lefebvre signed a series of iconic models: the Traction Avant in 1934, the TUB in 1939 (Citroën's first front-wheel drive van, succeeded by the Type H in 1947), the 2 CV in 1948 and finally the DS in 1955.

Between 1923 and 1931, André Lefebvre also designed several highly original and impressive competition and record cars for Voisin. Some of them were also driven in races and record attempts.

It seems clear that, during the sixteen years of collaboration with Gabriel Voisin, André Lefebvre was influenced by the ideas of this eminent aviation pioneer and car manufacturer.

The experience acquired gave André Lefebvre the necessary trust to convince successive Citroën executives that his non-conformist approach to car design was what the brand needed. First André Citroën, then Pierre Michelin, Pierre-Jules Boulanger, Robert Puiseux and finally Pierre Bercot.

His work for Citroën earned him a place of honour among the great car designers of the 20th century. Today's cars reflect this, displaying some of his designs and automotive philosophy. That is why it is surprising that so little is known about this brilliant and fascinating engineer.

This book - André Lefebvre: De la Voisin Laboratoire à la Citroën DS - intends to remedy this lack, and to pay tribute to André Lefebvre, an enthusiastic pioneer who left a great legacy to motoring lovers all over the world.
