The history of the automobile experienced its most exciting pioneering ferments in the late 19th century. The first cars were called Horseless Carriages, because they were effectively carriages without horses.
Armand Peugeot was one of the main protagonists of this period, and already in 1892 stated: I am convinced that transport by automobile is destined to have an extraordinary development. If we are daring and capable enough, we will make Peugeot one of the largest industrial companies in France.
