The Fiat 127 and 128 radically changed Italian mobility in the 1970s. The 127, launched in 1971, was the successor to the 850 and featured front-wheel drive with a transversal engine, practicality and low fuel consumption. Compact and lively (903 cm³ with 47 hp), it became the best-selling car in Europe for many years.
The 128, launched two years earlier in 1969, was a more spacious mid-size saloon, equipped with a lively and reliable 1100 cc 55 hp engine. Also with front-wheel drive and a transversal engine, it marked an epoch-making change for Fiat.
Both, the brainchild of Dante Giacosa, combined modern technology and simplicity. The 127 became the car of choice for young people, while the 128 was the ideal choice for families. Two different but complementary cars: practical, economical and intelligent, symbols of an Italy looking to the future.
Retracing their history means not only exploring a crucial moment of mechanical and technical revolution, but also immersing oneself in a significant page of our country's culture and society that these cars embodied.
Fiat 128 - 127 – Le Guide ASI has 60 pages with many pictures. Text in Italian.
