The first trucks rolled off the production line at Ford's Cologne plant in 1928. However, the short-bonnet diesel trucks built from 1951 onwards were unable to match the pre-war success, and so the construction of large trucks ended already in 1961.
At that time, however, the small Ford FK van was already overshadowing the legendary VW Bulli in terms of payload and speed. The Ford Transit, built based on a British design from 1965 onwards, became a legend and commercial vehicle production only left Cologne when the new generation started in 1986.
Alexander F. Storz covers a unique chapter of German industrial history in the first comprehensive, richly illustrated work on the subject.
Ford LKW: Vom Typ AA zum Transit 1928–1986 features 174 pages and 335 pictures. Text in German.
