FORMEL-RENNSPORT IN DER DDR: 1945-1972
The history of road racing in the GDR is quite turbulent. Under the eyes of the authorities, drivers often moved on the edge of legality with ingenuity and initiative.
Lutz Blütchen experienced this chapter of German motorsport history in the front row of the grid. With the support of former sports friends, through intensive archive research, interviews with contemporary witnesses, and also as a former driver and person in charge, he has compiled a complete chronicle of GDR formula racing.
In this first part, he documents the beginnings of motor racing in the GDR; the planned second part will be on the era from 1972 onwards, after the end of public sponsorship.
