It has always been said that history is written by winners. And to some extent that is how it is. The same is true in the world of sport, especially in the F1 circus.
Because it comes down to it, great books and in-depth interviews are in the main dedicated to those drivers and manufacturers who have proved capable of winning at least one World Championship title.
And yet a different, fresh approach is possible. Mid-way between the theories of Alessandro Manzoni and Akira Kurosawa.
Between those who have said that contributions to history can be made by secondary figures and those who have held that the nobility of defeat has rendered immense certain personal stories otherwise forgotten but in reality unforgettable.
