Acclaimed Japanese photographer Mikio Hasui captured more than 100 previously unseen black-and-white images during the unforgettable weekend, documenting drivers, pit-lane tension and flat-out night running through his Leica and Canon cameras.

Translators converted his meticulous Japanese notebook annotations into English, enriching each frame with personal insights from the man whose brother-in-law, Masanori Sekiya, piloted the winning car.
