The third of three monographs - Profili Quattroruote - dedicated to the glorious and timeless Lancia cars that have given so much prestige to the Italian colours in international motorsport.
This third volume, after the first on Lancia Fulvia HF and second on Lancia Stratos, deals with three equally prestigious models that have left an indelible mark on the history of rallies: 037, Delta S4 and Delta 4WD. The period covered is 1982 to 1987.
The history of rally cars built by Lancia in these six years is somewhat the story of the evolution of technology in this specialty at a time when, for different reasons, the regulations changed more radically than at other times in rallying.
The "037" or "Rally" had rear-wheel drive and a longitudinal mid-engine, the "Delta S4" had all-wheel drive with a longitudinal mid-engine and dual fuel system, turbocharged and volumetric, never before used.
The "Delta 4WD" also had four-wheel drive with three differentials, powered by a transverse four-cylinder with a Garrett turbocharger.
