The Mercedes-Benz 190 (W 201 series) was one of the most successful German car models of recent decades. With almost 1.9 million units produced between 1982 and 1993, it broke numerous production records and became a fierce competitor, especially to the BMW 3 Series.

It was available with four- and six-cylinder petrol engines and with four- and five-cylinder diesel engines. The top models were the sporty 190 E 2.3-16 and 190 E 2.5-16, which obtained more than 50 victories in the DTM in the various 'Evolution' versions, cars for competition or everyday use. Tuners like AMG, Brabus and Oettinger gave the 'small Benz' even more power.

The 190 was ahead of its time with innovative features such as a steered rear axle and the isolation of the diesel engine. The technology was still solid and robust, while the bodywork designed by Bruno Sacco was of timeless elegance and still looks attractive today. In Germany, older vehicles now have the status of collector cars, with well-kept cars and rare sports models in particular being traded in at high prices.

Mercedes 190: Modellgeschichte - Kaufberatung - Pannenhilfe consists of two volumes: the first, 216 pages, richly illustrated, tells the whole story of the model and racing, and contains detailed buying advice, with current quotations; the second, a 104-page colour booklet, with around 450 photos and drawings, provides countless maintenance and care tips, as well as basic knowledge useful in case of breakdown.
