The Porsche Carrera GT is - as one might say politically incorrectly - a true "competition car for the road", the result of a powerful blend of ambition and avant-garde technology.

Conceived in the wake of the euphoria following Porsche's victory in the 1998 Le Mans 24 Hours, the Carrera GT's mission is to show the world the best that Porsche's experience and know-how can produce in the not-so-easy compromise of a powerful road car.

A 612-hp car, with a 5.7-litre V10 engine, the largest and most powerful then ever built by Porsche. Ex-rally driver Walter Röhrl contributed to its set-up, thanks to several test laps on the Nürburgring's Nordschleife circuit.

This volume, lavishly illustrated, traces the entire history of this extraordinary automobile, from the audacious initial choice of the German manufacturer to "humanise" a racing car, to the different phases of its production. From the presentation to the public, to the following, so to say, commercialisation.
