Porsche had already successfully tested turbocharger technology in racing in the early 1970s. In the 1975 model year, a version of the Porsche 911 with extraordinary power came onto the market, thanks to turbocharging: the 911 Turbo.
From its market launch, the 911 Turbo became the top model in the 911 range (initially also known internally as 930). From the 1987 model year, the Turbo model was also available in Targa and Cabriolet body variants.
