With a plunge in the past, in this eleventh edition, the author tells us about the second Mille Miglia, dated 1928, with careful and in-depth research, which highlights a race that was fundamental for the development of the event, so much that the author defines it as 'the keystone'.
This was the beginning of Alfa Romeo's supremacy, which with Campari-Ramponi, in the new 6C 1500 fitted with a compressor, set a new record average (84.126 km/h), almost two hours ahead of the previous year's winners Minoia-Morandi on an OM 665 Superba.
Attilio Facconi's research and rigour for the subject earned him special recognition from the Vittoriale degli Italiani, which has given its patronage to the work in the past five years.
This edition highlights Gabriele d'Annunzio's heartfelt plea to the head of the government to legally equip cars with an instrument capable of measuring speed. In addition to a letter, there is also a photograph showing the Vate in his Lancia Trikappa, one of the cars owned by the poet during his stay at Villa Cargnacco on Lake Garda in Gardone Riviera (Brescia).
The preface to the volume is signed by Aldo Bonomi, Cavaliere del Lavoro, President and CEO of the Bonomi Group, Mille Miglia enthusiast and President of the Automobile Club of Brescia, and is completed by the intervention of Maria Leitner, RAI journalist, editor and anchorwoman of Tg2 Motori.
