The town circuit of Ospedaletti debuted as a speed race in 1947 and was included in the international grand prix circuit the following year. The Formula One adventure saw the biggest names of the era, from Nuvolari to Fangio, Ascari, Bira, Villoresi etc., and ended in 1951 due to safety problems caused in part by the serious accident of Johnny Claes and also to the power of the new engines that could no longer find an outlet on the over-compressed track.

He continued motorcycling until 1972. The following year, due to safety concerns following the tragedy at Monza of Pasolini and Saarinen, the organisation of the Grand Trofeo di Ospedaletti was definitively stopped.

The history of this motoring adventure has recently been highlighted thanks to the publication of this book - Un Gran Premio tra il mare e gli ulivi: la storia del Circuito di Ospedaletti - written by a motorbike enthusiast, Adriano D'Andrea from San Remo, and published in 2008 to mark the re-evocation of the circuit.

This publication, the result of more than 20 years of study and collection work, and complete with photographs and classifications of all grand prix races, reveals from the introduction the author's passion and love for the world of motor sports. The apparently personal memories are truly collective, of all those who enthusiastically followed the races that marked the history of the circuit.
