It is a very special fascination, that of Jan Thiel. The magic of a man who has opened up new ways in the field of motorcycling, has won an impressive number of world titles, has made the bikes of many manufacturers and many private riders fly, has been courted by riders and team managers without changing an inch.

He has made motorcycling history and doesn't seem to have noticed. He hasn't changed his way of doing things, he hasn't changed that slightly too "casual" outfit for which two times DORNA - the MotoGP organisation - asked him to sit outside the pits: sandals and T-shirt, perhaps the first one found in the drawer.

He didn't study much at school, but in life he never stopped: he left school shortly after the eighth grade, but he continued to increase his knowledge with an incredible determination, reading books, looking at pictures in newspapers, X-raying anyone who could give him some ideas to develop and, above all, reasoning and experimenting a lot.

But Jan is someone who wants to make mistakes with his head. He did not let himself be guided even in the writing of this book, and even this he wanted to develop in his own way, giving his very personal interpretation of facts and people.

If something has been omitted, it means that it was not important to him or that it was a part of his life that he does not like to remember. This is Jan's book, and for those who have the patience to read it to the end, it is an opportunity to get to know him more deeply than most of the people he has met along the way.

Without pretending to know him fully, however, as we said at the beginning. Because Jan has always been enigmatic and has not stopped being so in retirement.

And it is this feeling that there is always something special yet to be discovered that makes his character incredibly fascinating.
