How did the Angeli Ribelli (Rebel Angels) revolt begin, the challenge to Enzo Ferrari?

It all began on 30 June 1956 with the premature death of Dino, 24, Enzo Ferrari's eldest son. From that day on, the condition of Laura Domenica Garello, the wife of the Drake and Dino's mother, began to worsen.

The following year, in 1957, Castellotti died at Modena and De Portago at the Mille Miglia, in a terrible tragedy that ended the classic Brescian race. In 1958, Luigi Musso also loses life at Reims, and in 1961 von Trips' Ferrari wreaks havoc in the crowds at Monza, with fifteen people dead and the German driver lifeless on the track.

It is the worst moment in the life of the Drake, who is put on the stand twice in a row. His undisputed position as a charismatic leader seems to waver to the point that all his most trusted executives, in an attempt to smooth over internal dissensions within the Scuderia, even turn to a lawyer but, for this, they will be kicked out by the Chief.

And they, the "Angeli Ribelli", decide to found a rival team, the ATS, born in the image and likeness of Ferrari and then vanished in the space of a single season. This is the plot of Danilo Castellarin's story that leads the reader through some of the most fascinating and controversial pages in the history of the House of the Prancing Horse.

Angeli Ribelli - La sfida a Enzo Ferrari includes two photographic cahiers with more than 50 precious, completely unpublished images - taken by Franco Villani, the official reporter of the Bolognese company at that time - documenting the salient phases of the ATS "meteor".
