Paolo Rampini was born in December 1949 in Milan, the city where he has always lived. He had a passion for toy cars since he was a child.

"At 13 years old, he had a collection of 150 models". After 50 years of collecting, he still has a collection of around 12,000 pieces, most of which are die-cast models.

Paolo Rampini started his career as publisher and author of books on antique toys and model cars in 1982. Between then and 2023 he has produced 29 books, among which The Golden Book of Model Cars (1995), and the books on Bburago and Brumm stand out for their interest and success.

This volume, published in 2023, comes after the first one, published in 2020, sold out in a few weeks, and like this one deals with a little-known genre among collectors, that of rubber models. Instead of doing a reprint, the author decided to produce a new book with about twice the pieces photographed in the first one.

As the author points out, collectors of rubber model cars are quite few, especially in Italy; for this reason, even if many pieces are rare, quotations are not very high.

In general, models produced from 1930 to 1985 are listed, as well as models in extruded plastic. Some models made of thick, soft, rubber-like plastic (PVC) appear, mostly from the 1970s and 1980s.

The text of the book is in Italian, but the lists are in English so that everyone can understand without difficulty.

Like all Paolo Rampini's books, Automodelli Gommosi volume 2 is amply illustrated and counts 144 pages.
