The 34th edition of the Formula One World Championship was characterised by technical and competitive aspects of great interest.
On the one hand, the massive affirmation of turbocharged engines, on the other, the splendid uncertainty over the final result of the competition, which remained full of suspense until the very last round of this season, that South African GP which awarded the two titles (one for drivers, one for constructors) to Nelson Piquet and Ferrari.
