Francesco Parigi, who over the years has provided us with essays and biographies on champions and circuits, with this work in three parts, offers readers 'his history' of the Mille Miglia, with the pleasure of doing so, even though he is aware that much has been written about the most beautiful race in the world, and by more or less famous names in motoring and sports journalism.

in the past, Giovanni Canestrini, Giovanni Lurani, Luigi Orsini and, in more recent times, Carlo Dolcini, with a powerful volume covering the post-war editions.

Mille e non più di Mille - Storia e leggenda della Mille Miglia "la corsa più bella del mondo" is a small opera omnia that, with its almost 1,200 pages, covers the twenty-four editions of the Mille Miglia that took place from 1927 to 1957, with a long break due to the world war in between.

And it is precisely this last tragic event that represents the watershed between two different phases of the Mille Miglia, that until 1940 (or more correctly up to 1938), intertwined with the affairs of the Fascist regime, linked with its liturgy, often used as a potent propaganda instrument, and that of the post-war period, in a freed and 'purged' Italy, which is beginning to live and rise again.

The first volume covers the first twelve editions from 1927 to 1938, adding the two "succedanei" (substitutes) that attempted to replace it in 1939 and 1940 (II Litoranea libica Tobruk-Tripoli and I Gran Premio delle Mille Miglia).

These pages tell the story of these "dodici gare più una" (twelve races plus one) and what revolved around them: betrayals, antagonism, power games and a great competition between two formidable and different aces like Nuvolari and Varzi. Included are all the results, interesting statistics, curiosities, and records.

The second volume chronicles the eleven post-war editions, from 1947 to 1957, equally unforgettable and exciting, with its champions, other feats, and unfortunately, other tragedies too. All the relative results can easily be consulted in the third volume.
